“The relationships being developed between the natural and man-made worlds fascinate me. My work often depicts relationships that are in a state of transformation from one environment to another or that are evolving to adapt to a new situation. These relationships often involve the erosion of a man-made space through natural forces or the urban eroding away at the natural.
My installation explores the ties between the erosion of memory, history, being and the landscape with a powerful natural force. Photographs are often all we have of a memory and the loss of a photo is the loss of a memory. It is a loss of a place, a person an event. As these photographs disintegrate, the memories they represent are fading and changing form paralleling the environment they originated from. The landscape has been forever changed, as has the community and its people.” – Mark Baugh-Sasaki
