Cast paper (pulp made from my parents’ old bed sheets)
“In 1971, while my father was away for the summer for ROTC, my mother wrote him love letters almost every day they were apart with rare exceptions. A few years ago, I found the letters in a shoebox in the back of my father’s closet. For this new series of cast paper pieces, I am using pulp made from my parents’ old linens to recreate sculptural portions of my mother’s correspondences. This is a unique opportunity to utilize materials and text that are so closely bound, while also embodying the history of European rag paper.” – Julia Goodman
