1894 – Quarterly Working Card of the Building Trades Council of Chicago, one of the early unions to join the AFL. This card enabled the holder to “fellowship” when the worker moved to a new city and continuity of union benefits (American Labor: A Pictorial Social History, Morris Bartel Schnapper)
