Rotten potatoes, salsa packets from Taco Bell, and dirty socks may ignite an urge to clean in those initially viewing Chris Thorson’s meticulously painted works. Inspired by her own disgust and irritation with litter, Thorson chooses familiar forms such as sunscreen or liquor bottles, which she then casts in bronze or Hydrocal (a very fine plaster). The Hydrocal pieces are then painted true-to-life, elevating the thrown away to the status of art object. By choosing to faithfully recreate in full detail the clutter produced in everyday life, Thorson elevates these objects through her care and skill.
