Goodman's painting is of one of the open areas at San Quentin State Prison, right outside of the Arts-in-Corrections workshop room. Years ago, guards used live rounds as warning signals to the inmate population, shooting up into the air and penetrating the roofing. The holes still exist, and light beams straight through to the ground on sunny days.
