Kota Ezawa’s works featured here all center on the artist’s exploration of art crimes and attacks on art (vandalism). Self-Portrait is Ezawa’s interpretation of Self-Portrait with Black Beret and Gold Chain by Rembrandt, attacked in 1977 in Kassel, Germany by a serial art vandal who over a span of forty years damaged more than 50 artworks, most with sulfuric acid.
